Cheniere Energy Twins Q1 Net Losses Deepen

Cheniere Energy (NYSEMKT: LNG  ) and closely related Cheniere Energy Partners (NYSEMKT: CQP  ) have released their Q1 results, and the news is sure to disappoint investors. For the former, its quarterly revenue was just under $66 million, down from the $70 million the company posted in the same period the previous year. Attributable net loss widened considerably, to $117 million ($0.54 per diluted share) from Q1 2012's shortfall of $56 million ($0.43).

The most recent quarter's numbers fell well short of analyst projections, which on the average were for revenue of $75 million and a per-share loss of only $0.20.

As for Cheniere Energy Partners, its Q1 top line came in at $66 million, $3 million lower than Q1 2012's $69 million. Its net loss was $42 million ($0.10 per diluted share), against the year-ago quarter's $19 million ($0.23).
